Prof. Raul Payri graduated as an industrial engineer in 1995. He completed his doctoral thesis in 1999. Teaching since 1998 he became Full Professor at Universitat Politecnica de Valencia in 2009. Dr. Payri is currently the manager of the injection group formed by 30 engineers. Since 2010 is responsible for 30 projects with an overall budget of 5 million euros. He has worked in more than 200 research projects funded by companies such as Stellantis, Ford, General Motors, Renault, Fiat, BMW, General Electric, Daimler, Delphi, Jaguar Land Rover, Carterpillar, Cummins, Toyota, Repsol. The dissemination of results has taken place over the publication of 156 articles in scientific journals. His h-citation index is 44 the highest in mechanical engineering in Spain. He has supervised 14 doctoral theses and over 72 master projects. Doctor Payri is editor in chief of the International Journal of Engine Research.


Abstract

The study focuses on the CFD modelling and analysis of the passive pre-chamber ignition concept, a promising technology for enhancing combustion efficiency in future-generation spark-ignition (SI) engines. By leveraging advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools, the investigation explores the complex interactions between turbulent jet ignition and in-cylinder flow dynamics. The passive pre-chamber system, which relies on pressure-driven fuel-air mixture exchange without active injection, offers potential benefits in terms of reduced ignition delay, improved flame propagation, and lower emissions. This analysis provides critical insights into optimizing pre-chamber geometry and operating conditions to support the development of cleaner and more efficient SI engines.
